As most of you know, Alafair is James Lee Burke's daughter. Is it the first time that members of one family were included in this anthology series? I believe Joyce Carol Oates appears in all the editions of this series, while Scott Wolven, an otherwise regular, was not included this time.

THE BEST CRIME AND MYSTERY STORIES OF THE YEAR 2009, edited by Ed Gorman and Martin H. Greenberg
As I write somewhere, the year 2009 sees some changes in the best mystery anthology market. Ed Gorman and Martin H. Greenberg has lost one publisher (Pegasus Books) for their best mystery anthology series and found another (Tyrus Books). So the title has also changed from THE YEAR'S FINEST CRIME AND MYSTERY STORIES to THE BEST CRIME AND MYSTERY STORIES OF THE YEAR. The "real" or "official" title of this year's best anthology is BETWEEN THE DARK AND THE DAYLIGHT AND 27 MORE OF THE BEST CRIME AND MYSTERY STORIES OF THE YEAR (Tyrus Books, 2009). Don't you think it is rather long for the title? As you guess it, it has 28 crime and mystery stories as follows:
"Father's Day" by Michael Connelly, featuring Harry Bosch, first published in BLUE RELIGION (edited by Michael Connelly; Back Bay Books, 2008)
"Walking the Dog" by Peter Robinson, first published in TORONTO NOIR (edited by Janine Armin & Nathaniel G. Moore; Akashic Books, 2008)

As always, Jon L. Breen efficiently provides "The Year in Mystery: 2008" column including the necrology, which Edward D. Hoch had been contributing until the previous edition.
