WordSmith 3.0 Screen Shot

This screen shot was taken on my Macintosh using Soft Windows 95. The original screen shot was very large (1037 x 797), so has been shrunk so as to fit smaller screens. Consequently, the screen shot will be easier to see if you save it to your hard disk, and then use your own photo software to view it.

On starting WordSmith the user is faced with a choice of using six different 'tools'. One of the tools is a concordancer (Concord). The other tool that is very useful is 'Text Converter'. This is very useful for going through large number of text and re-formatting them so as to make them 'WordSmith' compliant. The screen shot below shows the Concord screen (top-left) with concordance lines for the words 'interesting' and 'interested'. Here the node words have been blanked out. This could be printed from WordSmith or transferred to a word processor and subsequently used as teaching material. In this screen shot it is also possible to see the collocate window (bottom-right). here we can see the collocates of the two search terms. This tells us the frequency of the collocates and also the position of the collocates relative to the node. Incidentally, the files searched were the email version of the Guardian Newspaper.
